Consumer advocates have accused Australia’s biggest energy retailers of profiteering at the expense of households and undermining a government budget measure designed to lower bills for customers.
The criticism follows the release of strong earnings from the sector, headlined by a near one-third rise in profits, and expanded margins, by the country’s biggest retailer, Origin Energy.
